Pretoria - The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has finally logged a case against the owner of the two giraffes involved in an accident on the N1 in which one of them was killed as they were being transported on July 31.

The incident which shocked and angered many people is being investigated and championed by the NSPCA.

Chairman Rick Allen confirmed that a charge of cruelty to animals was lodged with the Garsfontein police on August 19 and that they were awaiting information from the police.

“The prosecutor might change or add charges… but we’ve set the ball in motion. We want to ensure that things of this nature don’t happen again. (It) could have been avoided,” Allen said.
