Johannesburg - An eight-year-old girl is in a critical condition after being hit by a taxi and dragged several metres in the Zandspruit informal settlement, near Honeydew, Gauteng paramedics said on Wednesday.

“The child has suffered serious injuries that included a broken leg and head trauma,” said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

The schoolgirl, who was crossing the road when she was knocked down, was helped out from under the vehicle by witnesses, said Jackson.

She was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. - Sapa
