Johannesburg - Gauteng finance mayoral committee member Geoffrey Makhubo refused to accept more than 3000 unresolved billing queries from the DA on Wednesday, the party said.

“Mr Makubo’s office refused to accept the bills and went so far as to call in the Johannesburg metro police department to remove us from the premises,” Democratic Alliance Johannesburg caucus leader Mmusi Maimane said in a statement.

He said taxpayers, who had been waiting months for a response from the city, decided to submit their queries to the DA for assistance.

“A vast majority lodged multiple complaints, but have never received any response from the city, and their problems still haven’t been resolved,” said Maimane.

“So the fact of the matter is that these people have been waiting in the queue, but haven’t been helped.”

Comment could not be obtained from Makhubo. - Sapa
