Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) will remain open during the festive season, and continue repairing and maintaining signals and other road-related infrastructure.

“The JRA will be fully operational during the festive period. On the public holidays December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1 and 2, standby teams will be on call to attend to any emergencies citywide,” said managing director Sean Phillips.

Eleven traffic signal repair teams will be working to ensure traffic signals are up and running. Seven re-

gional mainte-

nance and stand-

by teams will be available to undertake normal maintenance work during weekdays and emergency work after hours and during public holidays (including weekends).

Residents and councillors are encouraged to alert the JRA of any road-related defects, including emergencies, through the agency’s contact points, including the city’s

call centre at 0860562874, Twitter @MyJra or email [email protected]. Residents can also look forward to extended hours and better-trained customer agents at the City of Joburg’s walk-in centres from February.

Spokesperson Stan Mapho-

logela said that as part of

the city’s 10-point plan of becoming a responsive government, it would progressively extend operating hours from February.

“Extending operating hours will improve efficiency and customer service, as more than 38000 customers who visit the customer centres will be processed more timeously. We have listened to our customers and the extension of the operating hours is aligned to their needs,” Maphologela said.

The Thuso House walk-in customer service centre will open from 7.30am to 6pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Other main centres will

also open on Saturdays from 7.30am to 12.30pm.

Maphologela said that in addition to extending operating hours, the city would train its frontline staff who deal with customers face to face.

“The customer relations agents will be equipped to handle critical issues at the centres, and this will improve customer experience,” he said.

Maphologela said the walk-in centres would continue to serve customers during normal operating hours, except on public holidays, when the centres would be closed.

The centres will be closed only on the public holiday of December 27.
