Johannesburg - Traffic along certain roads in Johannesburg will be diverted at the weekend because of religious events, metro police said on Friday.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said traffic on the Soweto Highway would be diverted Ä from 6pm until midnight on Friday - for the Pastor Chris mass prayer meeting at FNB Stadium.

“The Soweto Highway will also be closed on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to midnight,” he said.

“Patrons to the Propak exhibition at the Expo Centre will not be affected as Nasrec Road and Rand Show Road will not be closed.”

Minnaar said traffic would also be diverted around St Mary's Cathedral on Saturday, for the consecration of the Johannesburg Anglican Bishop elect.

Plein Street would be closed to traffic between Eloff and Klein Streets.

Wanderers Street would also be closed to traffic between Bree and De Villiers Streets.

“The road traffic diversion (around the cathedral) will be in place from 7am until 2pm,” he said. - Sapa
