Johannesburg - Several roads in Johannesburg flooded on Monday morning as a result of heavy rain, emergency services said.

These included Klip Valley Road and New Canada Road in Soweto and William Nicol and Goldman roads near Florida, spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said.

“Motorists should avoid those areas or any other roads showing signs of flooding and use alternatives roads.”

Motorists were also advised to be cautious and look out for school pupils, as roads were slippery.

He said emergency services would be on high alert to ensure that areas affected by flooding were evacuated as soon as possible.

“We will be monitoring areas such as Alexandra, Diepsloot and Ivory Park.”

Mulaudzi warned children to stay away from drainage systems.

There were no reported incidents of drowning or any accidents caused by the rain, he said. - Sapa
