Kuli Roberts says she “messed up” by writing a column that contained generalisations about coloureds.

“I’d like to say to everybody who was offended by my column, I’m really, really sorry.

“I’m not a racist, I’m all about nation-building,” she said on her show, Headline, which aired on the Mzansi Magic channel on DStv Thursday night.

“Sometimes I think I’m funny when I’m actually not. I’d really like to apologise to everybody … I messed up.”

In a piece headlined “Jou ma se Kinders” (published on Sunday), Roberts referred to coloured women as beer-drinking, chain-smoking, loud and violent sex-addicts “with no front teeth (who) eat fish like they are trying to deplete the ocean”.

Sunday World editor Wally Mbhele subsequently announced that the weekly column would be discontinued after much public criticism.

This has been Roberts’s first public apology since she said sorry to her readers through Twitter. – Daily News Reporter
