Lenasia road reopened after protest

Comment on this story

Lenasia -

The R554 near Lenasia was reopened on Tuesday morning, after about 100 residents barricaded the road earlier in the day, Gauteng police said.

“The road has been re-opened, but there are still people singing on the side of the road,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

Earlier, residents protesting over service delivery issues burnt tyres on the R554 near Klipspruit Valley Road and the Golden Highway.

By noon the situation was under control and no arrests had been made.

The crowd had earlier signalled their intention to march, but the march did not materialise, Makhubela said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar of the Johannesburg metro police said the protest started at about 4am on Tuesday. - Sapa
