Johannesburg - Around 500 residents of the Stoffelpark informal settlement in Mamelodi, Pretoria who sat in the middle of a road in an apparent protest on Thursday, dispersed peacefully, police said.

“Councillors engaged them and afterwards they left peacefully,” Constable Sam Shibambo said.

He said there was no damage to property or violence.

Shibambo said police were still not sure what it was about as the residents did not carry placards.

About 500 residents sat in the middle of Tsamaya Road, next to Mahube Valley, in the morning.
