The wife of Mandla Mandela has been forced from the family home after it was found she had allegedly had an affair that produced a child.

A DNA test had allegedly confirmed the child Mandla believed he had fathered was not his.

Mandla, a grandson of Nelson Mandela, issued a statement on Monday ending media speculation that his French wife, Nkosikazi Nobubele Mandela (née Anais Grimaud), had left his home in Mvezo in the Eastern Cape to return to her home on Reunion.

“The Mandela family have sent my wife, Nkosikazi Nobubele Mandela, back to her home after it was discovered that she had been having an affair with one of my brothers. I can confirm that this affair resulted in a son that Nkosikazi Nobubele gave birth to in 2011,” the statement read.

Recently, there had been media reports that Nobubele had taken her six-month-old son home after a fight with her husband during which she revealed that the child was not his.

The child had been introduced to and named by Nelson Mandela.

Mandla said the disclosure had come as a shock. The Mandela family were in talks with Nobubele’s family to find a resolution.

Just before the two were to wed in 2010, Mandla’s estranged wife, Tando Mabunu-Mandela, sought a last-minute interdict to block the wedding.
