A 400 strong-queue at Freedom Park Primary School in Boksburg waited patiently for hours to cast their vote on Wednesday morning. Lucus Kruger, who has lived in the ward for 30 years, was waiting since 6.30am. He has never seen such a large turn out before.

People are relaxed and are quietly waiting in line. Kruger said the atmosphere was far more calm than earlier in the day. The voting station only opened at 7.20 and people were getting angry waiting. A previously run DA ward people were not too excited to hear ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe was coming to vote.

“I don't mind he is coming. He must just wait in the queue like everyone else,” a man who did not want to be named said. When Mantashe did arrive he greeted people cheerfully with a wave of his hand and a “good morning”. Only one person responded waving their hand back in return. - IOL
