Notices demanding that foreign nationals vacate RDP houses in Alexandra, Johannesburg, are promoting anarchy and violence, Gauteng housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi said on Friday.
“This pamphlet is condemned in the strongest terms... it was not even canvassed with other organisations in Alexandra,” said Mmemezi.
He said other organisations in Alexandra were against the notices because they were promoting crime and they wanted an apology from the Alexandra Bonafide Movement for putting them up.
However Movement founder Duma Kulashe said they would not apologise.
“We are not apologising for the notices and we are not retracting those statements,” he said.
Kulashe said the movement still wanted foreign nationals to vacate RDP houses. Mmemezi confirmed that a criminal case had been opened against Kulashe for the notices issued earlier this week.
He said organisations in Alexandra agreed that they did not want to experience the same xenophobic attacks that were seen in 2008.
“Organisations are against and won't accept threats made to foreign nationals... the Bonafides have started a war which they can't handle.”
