Johannesburg - A pilot was left with critical injuries on Sunday after his light aircraft crashed in Midrand near the Grand central airport.

“A report from the owners of the house say that they heard a big bang and when they went out they found that the plane had crashed into a tree about five meters from the house,” Netcare 911 said in a statement.

“Exact detail to the cause of the crash, however, will remain a subject for investigation. Netcare 911 paramedics the fire department and several services arrived at the scene and found the pilot to have sustained critical injuries,” Netcare added.

“Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic and ambulance crew worked fervently at the scene to stabilise the patient, and after he was immobilised on a trauma board, they transported him to a nearby hospital for the care that he required,” Netcare said. - Staff Reporter
