Oliphantsfontein -

A man drowned after he lost control of his vehicle and landed in a canal in Olifantsfontein on Wednesday, Gauteng paramedics said.

The canal was in the centre of two roads, said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann.

The man died before paramedics arrived on the scene.

“Bystanders tried to assist the man but were unable to rescue him... in time,” she said.

It is alleged that the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle when he lost control. - Sapa
