Johannesburg - A man is lucky to be alive after his car overturned and slid a few hundred metres on the N2 near the M7 on Saturday, paramedics said.

“Reports indicate that the man was travelling on the northbound lane at around 8.40am when he lost control of his vehicle and overturned, the wreckage coming to rest in the centre median several hundred meters down the road,” said Netcare spokesman Chris Botha.

Rescue workers arrived on the scene to find the man had been pulled from the rear window of the wreckage of bystanders.

The man was taken to hospital for further treatment.
