Johannesburg - Draped in red, green and yellow colours, members of the SA Communist Party and the African National Congress sang struggle songs ahead of the unveiling of the memorial for SACP leader Chris Hani.

His grave has been declared a national heritage site.

Hani was shot and killed in the driveway of his Boksburg home, 22 years ago.

The memorial, stretching at least 50 metres across the cemetery, displays Hani’s face, and is surrounded by four curved pillars.

On the other side of the pillars is a memorial wall of remembrance.
