Johannesburg -

Power was expected to be restored before midday on Thursday in Tshwane suburbs, the city said.

“Power is estimated to be restored at about 11.30am on Thursday,” said the city's spokesman Selby Bokaba.

By 12.30pm, Bokaba could not confirm if the power was restored or not.

The areas affected included Waterkloof, Pumulani, Koedoespoort, Tonnel, Mayville, Highlands, Soshanguve, Montana, Rosslyn, Pretoria North, Kosmosdal, Olievenhoutsbosch, Wonderboom, Lynnwood, Villieria, Watloo, Atteridgeville, and Saulsville.

Bokaba said the city had implemented a two-hour rotational load shedding after it was instructed by Eskom.

“The objective of rotational load shedding on a two-hourly basis is to help ease the demand for power.”

He said the city would keep updating its customers on further developments.

Eskom earlier announced power cuts were scheduled to last from 9am to 10pm across the country due to seven days of heavy rain leaving coal stocks wet.

Consumers were urged to switch off all non-essential appliances to reduce the impact of the power cuts. - Sapa
