Johannesburg - The disciplinary hearing of a Johannesburg school principal charged with insubordination will continue this week, a Gauteng official said on Tuesday.
Education spokesman Charles Phahlane said Rivonia Primary School principal Carol Drysdale was facing the hearing “for failure to carry out a lawful instruction”.
Drysdale appeared before the disciplinary committee earlier in the day. The matter would continue on Wednesday.
Phahlane declined to comment on the hearing.
The Sowetanlive website reported on Tuesday that the disciplinary hearing arose from an incident in February 2011, when the Rivonia school placed a Grade One applicant on its waiting list.
The school said she was placed on the list because her parents' application for admission was made late and the school was full.
The provincial department instructed the school to admit the girl, but was rebuffed.
The matter then went to the High Court in Johannesburg, which ruled that it was up to the provincial department - not the school governing body - to determine the school's maximum enrolment, the website reported. - Sapa
