Johannesburg - A member of the SA National Defence Force died in a car accident on the R55 outside Heidelberg on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said the soldier was travelling on the R550 from Vosloorus to Dunnotar to fetch his superior for work at Doornkop Military Base, south of Johannesburg.

He lost control of the military vehicle, a white Chevrolet Aveo, and it rolled several times.

The driver was seriously injuried and died on the scene.
