Johannesburg - Seven people were killed in three separate incidents in Gauteng on Wednesday evening, paramedics said.

Two men were killed when their panel van crashed into the back of a truck on the N4, near the Witfontein road onramp, ER24

spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said in a statement.

Both vehicles were travelling towards Pretoria, about 4km from the Diamond Hill toll plaza.

A passenger in the front of the van died on impact. The driver, who had broken legs, chest, facial and other injuries, died at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital. Three other men in the van were injured, one of them critically.

A woman was killed on the N1 highway, between the Malibongwe and William Nicol exits, when the minibus taxi she was in overturned, flinging her out. Two passengers, including the driver, were injured. The cause of the accident was not known.

Four people were killed when their minibus taxi, carrying 17

people, hit a tree on the R551 in De Deur, outside Meyerton. Some of the occupants, including two of the dead, were ejected from the vehicle. While it was not clear what caused the accident, a delivery vehicle was also involved, and crashed into a tree as well. The driver, the only occupant, was unhurt. - Sapa
