A fire on Sunday destroyed eight shacks in Diepsloot Extension 1, Johannesburg emergency services said.

“Twenty people were displaced,” said spokesman Robert Mulaudzi.

The cause of the fire was not known, but the shacks were destroyed around noon.

Mulaudzi said the city was conferring with non-governmental organisations to offer assistance to the residents who had been left homeless. - Sapa
