Johannesburg - A six-year-old boy saved his grandmother and sister when he pushed them out of the way as a car swerved onto a pavement on Stanford Road in Turffontein on Sunday afternoon, paramedics said.

“The light motor vehicle had apparently tried to overtake in oncoming traffic before swerving onto the pavement and colliding with the children,” said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring in a statement.

“The young child noticed the oncoming vehicle and attempted to push his grandmother and sister out of harm's way.”

The boy and his sister suffered minor bumps and bruises and were taken to Baragwanath hospital.

Officials are investigating the matter further.
