Pretoria - Pastor Penuel Mnguni has been kicked out of the community hall of the Dr JS Moroka Stadium in Mpumalanga where he drove over, jumped onto and hit congregants during a church conference last weekend.
Municipal officials on Thursday said that they didn’t know that it was his End Times Disciples Ministries that had hired the hall.
“The people who handle the hiring of the hall and other municipal facilities had no idea it was the controversial pastor who wanted it,” Dr JS Moroka Municipality spokeswoman Masabata Ramatsetse said.
She said they had been “ambushed” into hosting the pastor on their turf at the Kameelrivier B Stadium, becoming aware of his identity and antics only when pictures and reports surfaced in the media at the beginning of the week.
The pictures of Mnguni driving over two people lying on the ground hit social media on Tuesday, sparking outrage and attracting the attention of many, including the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural Religious and Linguistic Communities.
Head of the commission Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said they were looking for Mnguni and would be sending him to the Equality Court.
However, Mnguni posted a video challenging the commission’s chairwoman to go to his church and experience the “miracles”.
He said they knew where to find him.
The church’s Facebook page quickly became a canvas of words and pictures of Mnguni performing “miracles” on people during the church service.
