Johannesburg - Motorists are urged to avoid New Canada Road in Soweto because of excessive flooding under a railway bridge, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.

“The water is deep and it is not safe for cars or for people to use the road,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Motorists travelling from Soweto could use the Soweto highway as an alternative route. People travelling from the CBD to the township were urged to use the N17, Main Reef Road and Elias Motsoaledi Road as alternatives.

Minnaar said the alternative routes should be used until the water had drained.
