The affordable education loan option
Johannesburg - The family of the teacher who was punched by a Grade 7 pupil said they are considering legal action against the school and the department for not addressing the boy’s behavioural problems.
The 14-year-old Jim Fouché Primary School pupil, who has also been charged with common assault, allegedly punched his 41-year-old teacher last Tuesday.
She had asked the boy to remove a jersey he had been wearing which was not part of the school’s uniform. He was escorted off the school’s premises, in Brixton, by the police, and was placed in his mother’s care.
The Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesman, Gershwin Chuenyane, said the pupil would be suspended for seven days pending a disciplinary hearing, which was expected to start on Tuesday.
The teacher’s husband said his wife had received no support from the department.
Chuenyane said the department would ensure that the boy would receive his school work during the days of his suspension, and the teacher would be provided with counselling.
