Johannesburg - Three people died in a three-car crash on the N3 in Germiston early on Friday morning, Ekhurhuleni traffic police said.
“A silver Mercedes Benz sedan collided with a white Isuzu light delivery vehicle and a Range Rover, where three people unfortunately died and three sustained injuries,” spokesman Kobeli Mokheseng said in a statement.
The driver of the Mercedes was taken to the Union Hospital while a male passenger, believed to be in his late 20s, was declared dead at the scene.
“The male Isuzu driver, in his 50s, and a male passenger, in his 40s, were certified dead at the scene,” he said.
Two occupants of the Range Rover were taken to the Bedford Gardens Hospital.
It was not yet known how the accident occurred, but preliminary investigations revealed that all the vehicles were travelling on the N3 freeway towards Bedfordview.
“The Mercedes crashed into an Isuzu which lost control, and as it rolled to (the) opposite direction (N3 north) it was split into two halves and a Range Rover tried to avoid the crash, before it lost control and overturned,” he said. - Sapa
