Pretoria - A three-year-old child has drowned in a swimming pool in Pretoria, paramedics said on Saturday.

ER 24 paramedics received the call for help around 7pm on Friday, but were unable to resuscitate the child, spokesman Christo Venter said.

The child's gender could not immediately be confirmed.

“The public is urged to exercise extra caution when children will be around swimming pools during the summer, and during the upcoming festive season.”

Venter said a child was resuscitated in a separate incident in Kempton Park, also on Friday.

The six-year-old boy was found in a swimming pool by a relative.

Paramedics administered advanced life support and the child was taken to Tembisa Provincial Hospital. - Sapa
