Johannesburg - Johannesburg emergency services will investigate any formal complaint about a woman reportedly denied treatment because she was dirty, it said on Monday.
“This allegation is taken very seriously and the (Emergency Management Service) will thoroughly investigate any formal complaint from the family and take the necessary disciplinary steps if culprits are found to have acted improperly,” spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said in a statement.
The Daily Sun published an article on Monday claiming that ambulance workers had refused to transport Sarah Bezuidenhout to hospital because they claimed she was too dirty.
Bezuidenhout died on Friday, the Daily Sun reported.
Mulaudzi said the EMS had noted the claim “with great concern” and it encouraged the woman's family to formally lodge a complaint.
