Trio survive chopper crash

Germiston, Gauteng - A helicopter has crashed near the Rand Airport in Germiston, Gauteng paramedics said on Wednesday.

“The three people (a pilot and two others) on board managed to free themselves from the wreckage,” said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

A woman and the pilot were airlifted to different hospitals.

Jackson said the woman broke her leg and the pilot sustained chest injuries.

The third person, a man, was transported to Union Hospital by ambulance.

The cause of the crash, which happened just before 1pm, was not known.

Jackson said the helicopter, a four-seat Robinson 44, was extensively damaged. - Sapa
