Johannesburg - A driver was injured when the load-bed of his tipper truck hooked onto a bridge on the M1 freeway in Johannesburg on Monday, metro police officials said.

“The top of the tipper truck has hooked onto the Jan Smuts Avenue bridge, which crosses over the M1 highway in Parktown,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“As a result, the rear end of the truck has been ripped off and landed on the freeway,” he said.

The M1 had been closed at the Empire Road offramp since 5pm, causing traffic to back up onto the Crown Interchange and the M2.

Minnaar advised motorists to exit the M2 East at the Joe Slovo offramp and to join the M1 in Houghton. - Sapa
