Johannesburg – A driver was killed on Monday morning after his truck crashed off the R114 bridge and fell into a river in Diepsloot.

A second body of a man was later found in the overturned truck that crashed off the R114 in Diepsloot, ER24 said on Monday.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said paramedics, along with fire and rescue teams, arrived on the scene and found a large truck lying on its roof in the river, just a few metres away from the bank.

“On inspection, paramedics found the body of a male driver lying trapped inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries,” said Meiring.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the man’s body from the vehicle.

Meiring said paramedics, along with search and rescue teams carried on searching and eventually they found the second body in the cab of the truck.

“Unfortunately, this man too had succumbed to his multiple injuries,” said Meiring.

Local authorities were on scene investigating the cause of the crash.
