Johannesburg - Two people were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday morning after a taxi rolled down an embankment in Ruimsig, west of Johannesburg, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

When paramedics and other emergency services arrived at 7:30am at the accident site they found a minibus taxi wreck, in an upright position, on the side of Hendrik Potgieter Road.

“On closer inspection, paramedics discovered the bodies of two men lying motionless next to the vehicle,” Meiring said.

“Unfortunately, both men had sustained fatal injuries... Nothing could be done for both these patients and they were declared dead on the scene.”

Meiring said 10 other passengers were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

“Once treated patients were transported to various hospitals including Leratong and Helen Joseph,” Meiring said.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
