Johannesburg - Two people were killed and seven others injured when a bakkie overturned along the R59 near Vereeniging on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

A man and a woman were ejected from the vehicle and were found about 20 metres away.

They died on the scene, said ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija.

A seven-year-old boy and a 38-year-old woman sustained critical injuries in the accident.

The boy, who was thrown 30 metres from the vehicle, was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for urgent medical care, said Majija.

Five other people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Majija said a bystander told paramedics that the driver of the vehicle lost control and it overturned multiple times. - Sapa
