Johannesburg - Two people died in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a car in Vereeniging on Thursday, ER24 paramedics said.
Spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said a man in the taxi and a woman in the car were declared dead at the scene.
“Paramedics found one person inside the taxi having suffered fatal injuries. The man, in his 40s, was declared dead on scene. One other patient was trapped in the wreckage of the taxi and he needed to be cut out using the Jaws of Life.”
He was treated for multiple broken bones and airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
She said eight other people in the taxi suffered broken bones and other injuries as a result of the taxi rolling.
“They were treated on-scene and transported in a stable condition to hospitals in the surrounding area.”
The driver of the car suffered moderate injuries and was taken to hospital.
“Sadly, the young woman (passenger), who is believed to be 31-years-old, was killed in the crash and she died on scene as a result of extensive injuries that she had sustained.” - Sapa
