Johannesburg - Fifteen people were injured when two minibus taxis collided at the Jan Smuts and Eton Road intersection in Johannesburg on Friday, paramedics said.

“Paramedics and other services responded during the early morning traffic, and on arrival [at the] scene, [they] found the two taxis in the middle of the road. Both taxis had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision,” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“On assessment, paramedics found that roughly 15 patients had been injured in the collision. Two of the patients were found to be in a critical condition.”

He added that rescue services had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free one of the drivers who was trapped in his vehicle. The injured were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Meiring said the cause of the collision is unknown, and local authorities were on the scene for investigations.
