Johannesburg - Two teenagers died and two other people sustained serious injuries in an accident in Elsburg on Sunday, the Ekurhuleni metro police department said.

The four were in a blue Subaru sedan, which lost control and crashed into a pillar of a bridge, said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

A teenaged girl and a boy were declared dead on the scene.

The other two, a woman in her twenties and a man, were taken to the Union hospital for treatment.

“It is not clear at this stage what actually occurred before the accident but preliminary investigation reveals that the rear right wheel of the sedan blew up while it was in motion.

“It lost control and crashed into the pillar of a bridge. The Subaru caught fire immediately after the rescue mission,” Mokheseng said.
