Pretoria - Two people were injured when the sub-station they were working on exploded and caught alight in Sunnyside, Pretoria, paramedics said on Monday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics arrived at the scene just after 10am, they found a doctor on site already treating one of the injured persons.

"It is believed that the two had been working on the sub-station when there had been an alleged explosion, causing a fire to break out," he said.

He further said one of the employees sustained serious injuries while the second escaped with moderate injuries.
