Johannesburg - Gauteng traffic police have asked motorists to avoid the route along which Vuyo Mbuli’s funeral procession will travel on Friday as they expect hundreds of cars to be involved.
Spokesman for the traffic police Obed Sibasa said the procession will start from St John’s College in Houghton at noon and leave towards West Park cemetery.
“We are expecting hundreds of vehicles and advise motorists to avoid these routes,” said Sibasa. He urged motorists to use alternative routes between noon and 3pm.
“This is because masses of convoys will travel back to St John’s College on the same routes used before,” he said.

The procession will start at St John’s College and head west on Louis Botha Avenue, starting at Pine Street, with rolling road closures at the suburban intersections along the route, including York, Lily, Tudhope and Fife avenues. Louis Botha Avenue eventually becomes Clarendon Place, and after a few hundred metres, the procession will turn right onto the eastern side of Empire Road.
The cars will continue west along Empire Road, with the Jan Smuts Avenue, Queens Street and Hillside Road intersections being blocked off along the way.
They will turn right onto Barry Hertzog Avenue and travel north before taking a left onto Judith Road. Hill and Orange roads will be blocked off along Judith Road before the procession turns right onto Beyers Naudé Drive shortly before arriving at West Park cemetery.
