File picture - A waste collector died when he was hit by a car in Sandton on Tuesday.

Sandton, Johannesburg - A waste collector died when he was hit by a car in Sandton on Tuesday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said the 25-year-old man was pushing a waste collection trolley along the road when he was knocked down by a Volkswagen Polo.

He died at the scene. The driver was unharmed.
