Pretoria - A woman died in a five car pile-up on the N1 in Doornpoort, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said a veld fire near the accident scene could have contributed to the cause of the crash.

“One of the vehicles may have braked harshly... the other vehicles then ploughed into it and one another.”

The woman was declared dead on the scene. A man in another car suffered serious head injuries. - Sapa
