Johannesburg - A woman died and her 20-year-old son was injured in an accident that sparked a veld fire along the N12 between Potchefstroom and Fochville, paramedics said on Friday.

On Thursday night, firefighters called to a veld fire in the area discovered the burning wreck of a car, ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said.

When paramedics arrived they found that the woman had died and her body was burnt.

“Her critically injured son was found ejected from the vehicle and he sustained severe suspected fractures as well as burn wounds on his face,” Majija said.

No other vehicle was found on the scene and the accident was being investigated. - Sapa
