Johannesburg - Temperatures are expected to drop as the winter cold front sets in across the country this week, the SA Weather Service said.
The weather bureau warned that snow, rain and cold temperatures were expected as strong cold winds hit the Western Cape on Monday.
“The persistent onshore flow onto the Cape south coast is expected to cause widespread showers and possible heavy rain along this coast, spreading to the nearby inland areas. Very rough seas are expected to persist along the west, south-west, south and south-east coast up to Friday,” the organisation said in a statement.
The cold snap was expected to further intensify on Tuesday and Wednesday, while moving along the west coast of the country on Tuesday.
“On Wednesday, the cut-off low will move to areas to the immediate south of the Cape south coast. This movement is likely to cause isolated showers and thundershowers, with cold temperatures over the western Limpopo, Gauteng as well as the highveld of Mpumalanga and much of KwaZulu-Natal.”
The Western Cape was expected to experience heavy rainfall.
Scattered showers and thundershowers were likely to occur over the central and western parts of the country, while low freezing levels could lead to possible light snow over some areas of the Eastern Cape, the organisation said.
