The affordable education loan option
Cape Town - Government has launched a new project to further extend social services to the poor.
“The key objective of Project Mikondzo is to extend the reach of the services that the (social security) department and its entities... provide to South Africans at community level,” Social Security Minister Bathabile Dlamini said on Sunday.
Speaking at the launch of the project in Cape Town, she said it would focus on 1300 of the poorest wards in the country.
Mikondzo is a Xitsonga word that means “footprints”.
“Project Mikondzo will also pay attention to strengthening civil society organisations, through the NDA (National Development Agency), to help us deal with the challenges of food security, early childhood development, gender-based violence, and capacity building of NGOs.”
In a speech prepared for delivery, a copy of which was sent to Sapa, Dlamini called for the co-operation of the public, as well as community-based and non-governmental organisations to help make the project a success. - Sapa
