Cape Town - Fourteen people were injured when a minibus taxi rolled on the N3 highway near the Balgowan off-ramp in the Midlands, KwaZulu Natal.

According to ER24 paramedics, it is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle and after rolling a few times, the taxi landed on its side in the centre median of the highway.

"At the time of arrival, ER24 paramedics found most of the passengers lying around the taxi. The jaws of life had to be used to cut one passenger out of the vehicle,"

ER24 spokesperson, Annine Dormehl said.

"Three of the passengers sustained serious injuries to the neck and spine and eleven others sustained moderate injuries. "Two children between three and five years of age were among the passengers who sustained moderate injuries."

ER24 paramedics transported six of the patients to Edendale and Grey's Hospital while the remaining patients were transported to nearby hospitals by other emergency services. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, Dormehl added.
