Durban - Eighteen people, mostly children, were injured when a bakkie overturned down a steep embankment on the R74 in Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday afternoon, Netcare911 said.

Spokesman Chris Botha said children between the ages of six and 16 were being transported to a local soccer ground in Stanger when the vehicle veered off the road, overturned, and they were flung out as it tumbled.

Netcare 911, provincial paramedics and the KwaDakuza fire department arrived at the scene and found that 16 children “miraculously” escaped with minor injuries, but two sustained serious injuries.

Paramedics stabilised the injured on scene before they were transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment. - Sapa
