Durban – Twenty-one people were injured in three separate crashes in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday evening, paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics attended to an accident in which a minibus taxi crashed into a boundary wall in Rudloff Road, Mariannhill, in Durban, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.

“Upon arrival paramedics found five patients sitting along the side of the house. Upon assessment it was found that they sustained minor injuries.”

In another accident, which occurred in Hammarsdale off the N3, eight people were injured when two minibus taxis collided, Bodasing said.

A person trapped in one of the taxis had to be extricated by fire and rescue and emergency medical rescue services (EMRS). “Upon assessment of this patient, it was found that she was in a serious condition. All other patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

The third accident took place on Sweetwaters Road in Edendale. The driver lost control of the car and it plunged several metres down an embankment.

“Eight people, which included two young children, sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care,” Bodasing said.
