Durban - Eighty people were injured when two Metrorail passenger trains collided near Berea in Durban on Tuesday, paramedics said.

The passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries, ER24spokesman Russel Meiring said.

Paramedics and provincial services had set up a disaster area to treat patients.

“Metrorail shut down its power lines so we can work,” Meiring said.

Some patients were taken to Addington Hospital.

No critical patients or fatalities had been reported.

The cause of the accident would be investigated.
