ANCYL trying to sack Zuma supporters?

Comment on this story

The national ANCYL leadership wants to disband the KwaZulu-Natal executive because it is backing President Jacob Zuma for a second term, the provincial youth wing’s executive said on Saturday.

“The sin we committed is being loyal to the resolution of the congress that elected us to support Zuma’s second term as ANC president,” Sboniso Duma told reporters at a special meeting in Durban.

The meeting was convened to discuss the possible disbandment of the ANC Youth League provincial executive, allegedly by the national leadership.

Duma said the talk of disbanding was real, and being driven by the “factionalist” ANCYL national executive.

The provincial executive committee lambasted its secretary Bheki Mtolo for trying to divide the ANCYL so that Zuma’s support would be weakened.

“This will never be allowed under our guard. Dividing the ANC in our name should never be allowed in this province.”

The committee said the decision to not bus people to ANC headquarters in Johannesburg, for youth league leader Julius Malema's disciplinary hearing, was being counted against them.

The provincial executive committee convened a meeting before Malema's appearance where the decision to send people to Johannesburg was rejected by the majority of its members.

“We remain convinced that the decision we took for not sending any member to march against our Luthuli House was correct and within the principles of the organisation.”

Mtolo is said to be among those who believed sending people to Johannesburg was a good idea. Malema supporters clashed with the police and they reportedly burnt flags and t-shirts bearing Zuma’s face.

The provincial executive committee has accused Mtolo of neglecting his duties. It is now demanding him to choose between his ANCYL post and his deputy mayor position.

Mtolo, Malema’s strong ally, is also a mayor of Kokstad Municipality on the KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast. The ANCYL and deputy mayor positions are both full time.

“We are of the view that this double parking of our provincial secretary negatively affects the functioning of the organisation while 1/8it 3/8 is also negatively impacting on service delivery.”

Mtolo has been given until Monday to choose between the posts.

“To this end we are going to write to the ANC in the province and nationally requesting assistance on these issues.”

Provincial ANCYL leader Mthandeni Dlungwane said they had been informed by some ANCYL national executive members that the disbandment of the provincial structure was imminent.

Mtolo was not immediately available to comment.

ANCYL general secretary Sindiso Magaqa said he was not aware of any disbandment.

“I don’t know what these people are talking about. There is no such decision,” he said. -Sapa

The ANC mother body and the ANCYL should be a united body offering political solutions ie. ANC. and the Youth League offering new ideas for future Leaders for the mother body - THE. ANCYL is now completely off course and wants to dictate to the mother body and bringing it into disrepute - the whole composition of the youth league should be dissolved with it's current leadership - the govt ANC should cut of all funding - no salaries etc to the current mob - elect new leaders to the ANCYL which complies to the rules regulations of the mother body - HERE THE TAIL IS WAGGING THE DOG

As an internal issue, at least this might keep them out of Botswana's affairs

Well done KZN comrades, let's not be fooled by tenderpreneurs who claim to be champions of the poor. No one can win without KZN support, let Tokyo and his puppets die political death,

Here's what I think about this entire situation as we the youth watch from the peripheries: the new SG we've been given as young people leaves very little to be desired and he has big shoes to fill. and this business of "disbandment" of a functional structure simply because it does not suit individual's goals is sad and we all can see through it. I reckon people facing charges should focus on what the outcome of that will be and stop trying to take the masses down with them. They are leading young people astray.

The more I read about these children and their backwards ideas about politics, the clearer it is that the ANCYL is interested purely in power and greed, and not interested at all in actual governance. All they want is to be in power, and to put others in power, and to control that power. They have not shown the slightest hint of a desire to be in politics for the sake of the benefit of the country. It's depressing that the ANC itself doesn't have the ability to explain to these children that politics isn't only about being in the news or getting jobs for your pals. The ANC needs to take the entire ANCYL executive into a room and give them a thorough thrashing until they learn how to use their positions responsibly. Because if the current ANCYL doesn't change their racist, entitled views, then once they inherit the government, South Africa is going to be the worst possible place to live in. The ANC can start by throwing the entire ANCYL national executive out of the party, and slapping some sense into anyone that stands for election into the ANCYL before they assume power. It's disgusting to think that these are potential future leaders of our country. I haven't packed my bags yet, but if the current ANCYL doesn't change, and makes it into national government, I'm on the first plane out. (And before all the ANCANCYL brainwashed twits say good riddance, think about who you'll be able to steal from if all the businessmen shut shop and leave as well.)
