Durban - A Westville schoolboy is recovering in hospital after suffering an electric shock in the classroom, ER24 said on Monday.

It is understood the unnamed pupil, believed to be 15, and his classmates were using a transformer-like device when he received an electric shock, according to ER24.

He sustained serious burns to his chest and hands and was in a critical condition when ER24 paramedics were called to the school.

They provided him with several advanced life support interventions and took him to hospital for further treatment.

The headmaster of Westville Boys’ High School, Trevor Hall, could not be reached for comment on Monday night.
