Friends, family and even people who didnt know him have paid tribute to canoeist Graeme Anderson, 29.

Underberg farmer and top canoeist Graeme Anderson has died of rabies, SABC radio news reported on Friday.

The state broadcaster said the machines keeping him alive had been switched off.

He contracted rabies from a stray dog.

Anderson, 29, has been in the ICU at a Pietermaritzburg hospital for about five weeks.

A hundred and twenty-five rabies cases were reported in KwaZulu-Natal since the beginning of the year. - Sapa
